Here are a few (okay, more than a few) photos from Jude's second birthday. He opened a couple of presents in the morning and had fresh squeezed orange juice and a chocolate croissant for breakfast before we headed to the zoo. We saw lions and tigers and bears on the bus tour and overall had a very successful zoo trip, minus one medium-sized ready-for-nap-time meltdown over wanting to take home a three-foot panda bear. But you can't be two without having some sort of meltdown, and for that matter, it wouldn't be a real birthday at any age without a meltdown at some point. Fortunately, a small panda bear from the gift shop on the way out was warmly welcomed into Jude's posse of Sesame Street stuffed animals. We picked up sandwiches from Bread and Cie on the way home and ate them in the car in hopes of saving nap time for the crib (an unsuccessful feat), but made it home for a second nap with Dad while I made my double chocolate cake (note: with all semisweet chocolate in the cake and frosting). Then we headed over to Nana and Papa's for lemonade, swimming in the "pool," and dinner. Of course we had Jude's current favorite food, beans and rice, along with lots of guacamole and fish tacos. There were a few more presents and many Elmo cards and then my absolute favorite part, and clearly Jude's too - singing Happy Birthday. I've never seen anyone's face light up so brightly. Jude was so happy having everyone sing him Happy Birthday and gave us a huge round of applause at the end. The cake was delicious and certainly more successful than his first birthday cake. I feel confident saying that this little boy had a very happy second birthday.
